What is NLP?

ANLP DEFINITION

“NLP combines theories, models and techniques from a range of scientific and esoteric fields, to create accessible, understandable ‘tools’ which can be used by individuals, teams and organisations and applied in a variety of contexts to improve outcomes, support wellbeing and create change”

Association for Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP is the study of the structure of subjective experience.

NLP provides tools to change our subjective experience and, in doing so, the results we get.

Neuro: How we access experience through our neurology.

Linguistic: How we attach language to experience to give it meaning.

Programming: Our resultant patterns of behaviour/habits.

'Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change'

Wayne Dyer

NLP is a collection of tools and techniques to help us recognise and change our patterns of behaviour at the conscious and unconscious level. It also provides a powerful set of tools to leverage the transformational effect of language.

MOVING MAPS

  • NLP explores how we assign personal meaning to our experience via our individual filters.
  • The personal meaning we assign to an experience is known in NLP as our 'Map of the World'.
  • NLP offers tools to change our personal filters and therefore, change our maps.
  • A changed map or interpretation of experience changes our response to that experience, which changes our results.
